This was my first time changing door hinges. I didn't research any procedures online. It took me over an hour, with co-workers butting in.
These door hinges aren't serviceable, so changing them is best. This was my first time changing door hinges (one at a time, of course). I didn't research any procedures online. It took me over an hour, with co-workers butting in. 4 out of 5 stars due to how fiddly it was to deal with the nuts, bolts and all the spinning the hinges around to get the new ones in and the old ones out. Then there was the door alignment. Then again, this is my first door hinge change. There are probably much worse designs out there. You will need: -penetrating fluid -painter's tape to mask door edges where you'll be getting to the bolts and the inner door jambs where you'll fiddle with the hinges. I didn't do the latter and now I have even more scratches. Also to tape bolts to sockets and limit swivel ... These door hinges aren't serviceable, so changing them is best. Also to tape bolts to sockets and limit swivel movement. -assortment of metric tools, preferably 3/8 -inch socket set for the cab-mounted bolts (WITH EXTENSIONS AND SWIVELS), 1/4-inch socket set for the door check, and wrench set. Get your hands on swivel-head ratcheting wrenches. I didn't. -mechanic's mirror to see the door-side bolt holes. -trim removal tools for lower foot-well kickpanel and door sill plate (bonus: a vacuum cleaner for all the crud found under said sill plate). Research where the trim clips are located, so you don't break one... like I did. If I where to do this again (and I will; this isn't my only Super Duty), I'll tighten the door-side bolts first (after getting the new hinges in) and then leave the body-side bolts and nuts loose for adjustment, rather than leave everything loose. What made my experience easier was my access to a pallet jack and a jackstand. I could not only roll it around to open and close the door, but also carefully lift the door for further bolt/hinge alignment. Now to see if I can make the old hinges serviceable. Where's my grinder...
