    not metal but well made and stiff enough to protect my hood.

    I thought I was getting a metal chrome deflector, but it is a composite or some such material with a chrome plateing. That said, it is well made and is made to fit in a way to protect your paint. It fits tightly and has good hardware. I had another one made by a major manufacturer and it was flemsy in comparison. It was comeing loose and was about to damage my hood. This one has much better hardware and fits solid and is made in a way to protect my hood. I am very satisfied with it.
